Have you ever wondered what happens to your old television once it’s thrown away? At the New Providence Ecology Park, members of the public are encouraged to separate electronic waste from regular trash.
In observance of Earth Day, finalists in an environmental speech competition toured the facility.
The sprawling 300-acre site transformed its approach to and sustainability in 2018. Since then, it has implemented a comprehensive system for managing household waste, industrial materials, and hazardous substances.
During the tour, students learned about initiatives to repurpose materials for road paving, safely separate electronic equipment, reduce the risk of site fires, monitor groundwater contamination, and compost organic waste.
The visit offered a firsthand look at modern waste management practices, reinforcing a key message: environmental protection begins with individual choices.
